NDC founding member pays tribute to crash victims

Ato Ahwoi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two senior government officials and military officers.

Ahwoi described the incident as “unfortunate,” particularly mourning the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah during a flower-laying ceremony held on Friday, August 8, in honour of the victims.

“It’s unfortunate that he has to leave us so soon to wherever he’s going. But we will all be there one day,” , a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),

Ahwoi also recalled how he personally convinced Dr. Boamah to join the NDC from the New Patriotic Party, saying, “By talking to him and convincing him. Telling him that it was a better party to be in than whichever party he was in already.”

Reflecting on the broader loss to the party, he added, “We have lost good people who should have been around to see the success of the second NDC.”

The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region and also claimed the lives of Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and six others.

The flower-laying ceremony was part of national mourning activities ahead of the state burial set for August 15.
