NDC has ‘zero’ social intervention achievements since 1992

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has built meaningful human resource capacity in Ghana, while claiming that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not successfully implemented any major social intervention policy since 1992.

Speaking on JoyNews, Afenyo-Markin said; “Ours is to create a platform to build the human resource capacity of the Ghanaian people. We did that successfully.”

He then challenged the Majority Leader in Parliament to name a single effective social intervention policy initiated and implemented by the NDC.

“Recently in Parliament, I challenged the Majority Leader to name a single social intervention policy the NDC has initiated and implemented successfully since 1992,” he explained.

When listing his own party’s achievements, Afenyo-Markin stressed; “They have zero,” pointing to NPP-led initiatives such as Free Senior High School (Free SHS), One District-One Factory (1D1F), the school feeding programme, health insurance, and the mass transport system as legacy projects of his party.

On a personal note, he reflected: “But for that bursary, I would have dropped out,” in reference to policies like Free SHS giving hope to thousands of young Ghanaians.

He also encouraged his party and supporters to celebrate their achievements.

“In spite of all these disappointments, we should still let the Ghanaian people know the good things we did,” he said. “We shouldn’t shy away from our success stories.”
