NDC Is Not Pushing a Second-Term Agenda for Mahama—Edudzi Tameklo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports suggesting the party is considering a second-term agenda for President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2028 elections.
Responding to the rumours during an interview on Okay 101.7 FM on Monday, December 1, 2025, the party’s Director of Legal Affairs, Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, described the claims as false, unfounded, and misleading.
According to him, no internal conversation, proposal, or strategic discussion has taken place within the party regarding Mahama’s return after the end of his current mandate. He stressed that individuals circulating the claim either lack knowledge of the former President or are deliberately spreading misinformation.
“There has been no such discussion within the NDC,” Tameklo said firmly. “Anybody confirming this issue is telling lies. We have not decided to bring Mahama for a second term.”
He expressed disappointment that such speculation had gained traction, insisting that those pushing the narrative do not understand Mahama’s character or the principles that guide him. Tameklo described Mahama as a unique political figure whose focus remains on national governance rather than personal ambition.
“It is painful that people continue to say things that are simply not true,” he added, noting that Mahama himself has never hinted at a desire to seek re-election beyond his current tenure.
The remarks come amid growing discussions in the political space about succession planning within the NDC, with some party supporters floating the idea of Mahama leading the party again after 2028. Tameklo’s rebuttal now represents the party’s clearest dismissal of the speculation.
The NDC leadership has yet to announce any formal succession roadmap, but party insiders say the focus remains on governance, national development, and delivering on campaign commitments rather than future presidential ambitions.
