NDC not involved in underhand dealings Ahead of Rerun

Greater Accra Regional Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Joshua Alabi, has moved to calm tensions ahead of the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency, firmly denying claims of electoral manipulation or bias on the part of the NDC.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda Amadu on Thursday, July 10, Alabi addressed growing concerns that the Electoral Commission (EC) was acting in favour of the NDC in the highly anticipated rerun slated for Friday, July 11, in 19 polling stations across the constituency.
“In the past, where state institutions were corrupt to do what they were not supposed to do, their powers were taken away from them. Those things are things of the past,” Alabi stated, adding that the NDC has no intention of repeating the mistakes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“It’s part of the reasons the NPP finds themselves where they are. We will not repeat their mistakes,” he emphasized.
According to Alabi, the NDC has held productive engagements with the relevant security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent election.
“We met with the National Security task force today [July 10], and they gave us firm assurance that everything will run smoothly. We as a party are not doing any underhanded dealings to create problems for anybody,” he said.
The rerun follows an earlier court and Electoral Commission decision to re-conduct elections in select polling stations after irregularities were cited in the original December 2024 parliamentary vote.
Tensions have been high, with the NPP initially rejecting the EC’s directive before deciding to re-enter the race.
