NDC weighs options on party executives serving in government

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has provided fresh insight into the party’s ongoing internal conversations about whether national and regional executives serving in government should vacate their party roles.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Gbande confirmed that the matter is being actively reviewed by the party’s leadership.
“There is a committee working on it, and the findings will come out soon.
“We are weighing the options carefully to strengthen the party and ensure effective governance,” he stated.
Gbande dismissed suggestions that President John Mahama is opposed to executives in government retaining their party positions.
According to him, Mahama sees value in maintaining party loyalty even within the corridors of power.
“It is not that President Mahama doesn’t want people to hold party positions.
“In fact, he wants those in government to remain loyal and accountable to the party base,” he explained.
He stressed that keeping such party figures embedded within government serves a larger purpose: maintaining strong ties between national leadership and the grassroots.
“Where the President is, he can be busy all day and not know what is happening at the grassroots.
“That is why party executives in government are important—to keep the connection between government and the people,” Gbande added.
