NDC’s Dzimega defends Azorka after Akwatia by-election confrontation

Theophilus Dzimega Junior, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, has defended the conduct of the party’s First National Vice Chairman, Sofo Azorka, during a tense exchange at the Akwatia by-election.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Friday, September 5, 2025, Dzimega said the incident had been misrepresented.

“Let’s be honest. I don’t know whether you’ve really watched the video of the two vice chairs. If you watch the guy, when Azorka was getting close, he [Masawudu] kept saying ‘you are my uncle’ or ‘you are my brother.’

“I can’t do anything. And he was sort of like smiling, the NPP chair was sort of like smiling,” Dzimega explained.

He further noted, “I mean, if you watch it towards the end, I will say those who are jumping in between the two of them are the ones that appear to have caused a bit of issue between them.”

The confrontation occurred at the Akwatia lorry station while NPP National Vice Chairman Osman Masawudu was addressing journalists.

Azorka reportedly took exception to Masawudu’s remarks, leading to a heated exchange that almost escalated into violence.
