Networks to offer 10-15% more data starting July 1

Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has announced significant improvements to data bundle offerings across Ghana’s major mobile networks following successful negotiations with telecom CEOs.

The new measures take effect July 1, 2025 and will provide consumers with more data for their money.

“I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs has resulted in the following specific measures which will take effect from Tuesday July 1,” the Minister stated during a press briefing in Accra.

All three major networks – AirtelTigo, Telecel and MTN – will implement a 10% increase in data allocation across their bundle offerings. Additionally, specific high-volume bundles will see even greater improvements.

The popular 400-cedis bundle from AirtelTigo will now provide 236GB instead of the current 194GB, while Telecel’s equivalent bundle jumps from 90GB to 250GB.

In a major win for consumers, MTN will restore its previous 399-cedi bundle offering 214GB, replacing the current 350-cedi bundle that only provided 92.88GB.

“I’m aware these increases are going to come at considerable cost to the network operators,” Minister Nartey George acknowledged, “but I’m glad our engagements and the consultations are bearing fruits for the Ghanaian people.”

The revised data packages come after extensive discussions between the Communications Ministry and telecom providers.

The improvements aim to enhance digital accessibility while balancing the operational needs of service providers.

Industry observers note these changes could significantly improve internet affordability for millions of Ghanaians when they take effect next month.

The Minister expressed optimism that the new data offerings would support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda while providing tangible benefits to consumers across all network providers.

Implementation of the revised bundles will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with the announced improvements.
