Nigerian boxer Segun Olanrewaju dies in the ring during bout in Ghana

Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju stepped into the ring on Saturday night, just as he had done countless times before—fists up, heart strong, ready for battle.

But this time, he wouldn’t make it out the same. The former West African light-heavyweight champion collapsed mid-fight at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Ghana, sending shockwaves through the boxing world.

The 40-year-old Nigerian fighter was in the middle of an intense but friendly bout against Ghana’s Jon Mbanugu during Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League.

By all accounts, he was leading on points, showing flashes of the skill and resilience that made him a respected name in African boxing. Then, without warning, he went down.

A chilling video circulating online captures the heartbreaking moment—one that fans, fellow fighters, and loved ones are struggling to come to terms with.
