‘Nkoko Nketekete’ is no joke – Central Regional minister assures farmers

The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, has announced plans to collaborate with the Department of Agriculture at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to provide orientation for farmers interested in Mahama’s poultry farm initiative, popularly known as “Nkoko Nketekete.”

According to him, this initiative will create employment opportunities for the growing number of unemployed youth.

Speaking at a workshop for the Central Regional Poultry Farmers Association in Cape Coast, Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere emphasized that the Nkoko Nketekete policy is a serious intervention, not just a mere initiative.

He revealed that under the programme, the government has allocated GH₵1.5 billion to boost poultry production by working closely with the Poultry Farmers Association to enhance efficiency and streamline the supply chain.

“Nkoko Nketekete is in the budget, and we are ready. It is the number one priority in our manifesto. The NDC is committed to it, and we need the people to be equally prepared. We do not have to wait until we distribute the chickens—orientation must start now,” Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere stated.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully implementing the Nkoko Nketekete policy and encouraged the general public, including journalists, to take up poultry farming as a part-time venture.

The minister also urged poultry farmers and stakeholders to support the government’s comprehensive agricultural initiatives, which aim to restore Ghana’s status as a leading poultry producer in West Africa.

“I’m a poultry farmer myself, and I understand your struggles. That is why I am appealing for your support in these initiatives as we work tirelessly to tackle challenges and revitalize the poultry industry,” he added.
