Nkroful pupils risk lives daily crossing makeshift log bridge to attend school

A disturbing video shared by blogger Sika Official has drawn attention to the dire conditions schoolchildren in Nkroful, a community in Ghana’s Western Region, endure daily just to access education.
The footage captures a group of very young pupils cautiously navigating a treacherous makeshift bridge—a single log laid over a stream or gully—as they attempt to cross to the other side on their way to school.
The scene has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling on authorities to immediately intervene.
The crude crossing not only exposes the children to physical danger but also reflects broader infrastructural challenges in rural Ghana, where basic amenities such as proper roads and bridges remain inadequate or non-existent.
Concerned citizens have urged the government, local assembly, and NGOs to prioritise the safety of schoolchildren by constructing a proper bridge and improving access routes in the area.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the local authorities regarding plans to address the situation
