NPP accuses Mahama gov’t of weaponising state security and judiciary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised alarm over what it views as heightened political interference in Ghana’s security services and judiciary under President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, party representatives accused the government of undermining the rule of law and weaponising state institutions to silence opposition voices.
According to the party, it has repeatedly taken steps to draw attention to what it calls a growing abuse of state power.
“The party has held demonstrations and numerous press conferences reminding President John Mahama and his government that we are a nation of the rule of law.
“We have asked the NDC government to stop its continuous weaponisation of state security and the judiciary against political opponents,” the NPP said.
Party officials expressed discomfort over what they describe as blatant disregard for constitutional provisions by state institutions.
“It is increasingly concerning that state security agencies continue to flout the Constitution of Ghana, particularly Article 14, with impunity,” the statement noted.
Despite raising the issue several times, the NPP insists its calls for fairness and respect for democratic principles have been ignored.
“Unfortunately, all our calls are falling on deaf ears, but as a party, we shall not back down in our resolve to fight this injustice,” the party stressed.
