NPP admits disappointment but respects Akwatia verdict

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally conceded defeat in the Akwatia by-election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s will.

Speaking after the Electoral Commission declared the results, an NPP spokesperson admitted the party had hoped for a different outcome but respected the verdict of the constituents.

“We are a bit disappointed because that wasn’t what we expected but the constituents have spoken so we take it in good faith,” the spokesperson said.

Reflecting on the struggles of the late MP who previously represented the constituency, the NPP acknowledged the personal sacrifices he made in defense of the seat.

“To some extent, we disappointed him because he has lost his life in trying to maintain the seat. He won, he had ran every bit of his life chasing to restore his honour and dignity to his constituents,” the party representative noted.

The spokesperson also recalled the legal hurdles surrounding the seat, highlighting how the Supreme Court’s earlier ruling and the subsequent proceedings at the Koforidua court impacted the party’s journey.

“Somewhere along the line he lost when the Supreme Court gave the first ruling and it was left with the Koforidua court to take a decision on it,” the spokesperson added.

The NPP reiterated its respect for democratic processes and pledged to continue engaging the people of Akwatia despite the electoral setback.
