NPP demands accountability after Jennifer Queen threatened on live TV

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned a threat of assault directed at its Deputy Director of Communications, Ms. Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, during a live panel discussion on United Television’s Adekeye Nsroma morning show on April 17, 2025.

According to an official statement issued by the party’s Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, Mr. Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, a panelist representing the Movement for Change, made the threat.

The statement described the threat as an unacceptable attack on a woman for merely expressing her political views.

“We condemn Mr. Adorye’s actions in no uncertain terms. Ghana has made significant strides in driving women’s political participation and amplifying their voices in our national discourse.

“Therefore, threats of assault or actual assault on women for expressing their political views must not be tolerated,” the statement read.

The NPP emphasized the importance of upholding tolerance and mutual respect in Ghana’s democracy, highlighting that free speech and expression should never be curtailed.

“Tolerance has been a key element in Ghana’s democracy, and we should continue to promote tolerance and respect for all in our national discourse,” it said.

The party further called on United Television and other media houses to safeguard against what it described as “unprogressive, undemocratic, and primitive conduct” on their platforms.

“We urge United Television and other media houses to guard against such unprogressive, undemocratic, and primitive conduct on their shows.

“This is a democracy, and people’s rights to free speech and expression must not be curtailed whatsoever.”
