NPP demonstrates in Accra over politically motivated arrests

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hit the streets today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 for a massive demonstration.
The protest is as a result of what they call the “misapplication of justice” under the John Mahama-led administration.
Party leaders accuse the government of abusing state institutions to witch-hunt former officials and sympathisers through politically motivated prosecutions.
The demonstration comes in the wake of a series of arrests targeting prominent NPP figures. Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was recently detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Another regional chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, was also picked up by the police. The party claims several other members and sympathisers have suffered similar arrests under questionable circumstances.
Confirming the protest, the NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, said all logistics and security arrangements have been concluded with the police.
“According to the Public Order Act, we were to give the police a five-day notification. So that is enough time for both of us to prepare.
“They also invited us to agree on the roads we were going to take and all the details they needed. So, everything as of now is in place,” he told Citi News.
