NPP denies leaking Oquaye Committee Report, warns against fake quotes

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied claims that it has released any portion of the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee Report, warning against the spread of fake quotes purportedly linked to its contents.
According to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, only one copy of the report exists and it was officially submitted to the National Council. He noted that the party is still reviewing the report and will release relevant information to the public at the appropriate time, if necessary.
Mr. Frimpong alleged that political opponents, particularly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), were behind the fabrication and circulation of excerpts from the report. He urged members of the party to ignore such claims and remain committed to the NPP’s ongoing rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Oquaye Committee, which was established to investigate the reasons behind the party’s loss in the 2024 general election, presented its findings to the National Council last Wednesday. However, since the submission, social media has been flooded with alleged quotes from the report—claims the party insists are entirely false.
The NPP has also issued a strong caution to its executives, leading members, and communicators regarding public endorsements or derogatory remarks about potential presidential aspirants. The National Council noted that it takes a serious view of recent disparaging comments made against some hopefuls and reiterated that the party’s code of conduct prohibits such actions until nominations for presidential primaries are officially opened. Any breach of this directive, the party stated, would attract sanctions in line with its constitution and internal regulations.
In a related development, the party has formed a nine-member Constitutional Amendment Committee to review and propose changes to the NPP constitution. The committee is chaired by Frank Davies, who also heads the party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee. It was established during the National Council’s meeting last week.
Other members of the committee include Deputy Minority Leader and MP for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei; MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Deputy General Secretary of the party, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko; Volta Regional Chairman Makafui Woanyah; and former MP Ebenezer Nartey, who will serve as Secretary to the committee.
The committee has been tasked with identifying sections of the party’s constitution that require amendments in line with the recommendations of the Oquaye Committee, as well as reviewing proposals made by the 2021 Constitutional Review Committee chaired by Alexander Afenyo-Markin. It will also receive amendment suggestions from members and affiliated groups, categorize them for clarity, and make recommendations for debate.
The NPP is expected to hold an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in July this year to consider the committee’s report. The proposals will be presented in the form of amendment motions for adoption or rejection.
