NPP Flagbearership contest: Ban endorsements

Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko holds the view that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party must place a ban on public endorsement of candidates for the flagbearership race.

He believes that the public endorsements are part of the reason why there is tension in the political party.

To him, this has in the past affected the party and broken it and so same approach cannot be used.

“I think I side with Kofi. The leadership of the party must be firm to ban all this public endorsements and punish those who blatantly disregard the directives. This public show of endorsements only breeds apathy, tension and further deepens the divisions in the party. We cannot do the same wrong things we did in the past and expect a different results,” he said in a post on social media.

The New Patriotic Party is gearing for an internal contest on January 31, 2025 to elect their flagbearer who will lead the party for the 2028 elections.

The two major camps in the race Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s and Kennedy Agyapong’s camps, have since been on each other’s throats with regard to endorsements.

While Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp claims they have massive support from stakeholders, the Kennedy Agyapong camp has kicked against it, indicating that they are just engaging in a make-believe campaign
