NPP has shifted from its values; materialism now the order of the day

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, has expressed worry over the shift from the party’s core values by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, elements in the political party have become too materialistic, such that it does not augur well for the political party.
To him, the New Patriotic Party, as he knew it before joining, was not a party of show-offs but rather a party that accepted everyone into its fold.
He cited past leaders of the political party, including Adu Boahen, Kufour, Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who are not billionaires but have had the opportunity to lead the political party and had the support of the party folks.
“We were following selfless people. Today, people who have money have the following in the party. Yes someone can be rich, some can be poor. Prof Adu Boahen was a University Professor, when President Kufour was becoming a President he wasn’t a millionaire, President Akufo-Addo wasn’t a millionaire. Dr. Bawumia, who was our candidate, was not a millionaire but if the party elects you, we all have a call to duty to support with our cash and strength because we believe that the person is going to work in tandem with the values and principles of the party based on our philosophy. There’s been a shift in the way we were loyal and committed to the true values of the political party. People have become too materialistic. People are fighting for more money but that is not what we used to know about the NPP,” he told Asaasepa Radio in an interview.
