NPP lied to Ghanaians —Wereko Brobbey and Yaw Boamah speak on poor leadership, Mahama’s task ahead

Media personality and host of Asetena Pa Akoto Mansa recently sat down with broadcasters Mmeranteɛhene Wereko Brobbey and Yaw Boamah for a candid conversation on her YouTube platform, where the trio delved into the pressing political and economic challenges facing Ghana.

On the subject of Ghana’s leadership under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the guests were united in their critique.

“The NPP simply lied to Ghanaians,” Wereko Brobbey said. “They made it seem like we were on a path to prosperity, but everyone could see the truth—the poverty, the rising prices, the hopelessness. There was no progress, only propaganda.”

Boamah nodded in agreement, adding that the ruling government’s failure to listen to the concerns of the average Ghanaian is what ultimately cost them their grip on power.

“Nana Akufo-Addo and his people stopped listening,” he said. “When a government no longer hears the cries of the people, it has already lost its legitimacy.”

Brobbey went further to stress that Ghana’s current crisis is not due to a lack of resources but rather poor governance.

“This country is not poor. Ghana is rich in everything—gold, cocoa, oil, you name it. What we lack is the leadership to manage these resources,” he argued. “Our leaders have consistently failed us.”

As for the new administration under President John Dramani Mahama, the two media figures issued a strong reminder of the expectations Ghanaians have.

“Mahama must act,” Boamah said bluntly. “People didn’t vote for him out of nostalgia. They voted because they believe he can fix what’s broken. This is not the time for rhetoric; it’s time for results.”

Brobbey echoed that sentiment. “He has to rise to the occasion. The hopes of millions are on his shoulders.”

The interview ended on a hopeful yet urgent note, with all three acknowledging the deep frustration among citizens but expressing cautious optimism for the future—if, and only if, leadership delivers on its promises.
