NPP rejects rerun in Ablekuma North, insists Akua Afriyie won fairly

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, July 9, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, declared, “We will not be part of any rerun in Ablekuma North.”

He insisted that the party’s parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, emerged as the legitimate winner of the 2024 election and described the EC’s decision as unjust and unacceptable.

Mr. Kodua further urged the EC to uphold the integrity of the electoral process by acting on the facts and evidence presented.

According to him, the results from the contested polling stations were duly verified and signed by all relevant stakeholders, including party agents and EC officials.

The Electoral Commission had earlier announced plans for a rerun, citing irregularities during the collation process—particularly, the failure of some Presiding Officers to validate scanned results with signatures.

But the NPP maintains that this technical lapse does not invalidate the votes, stressing that proper procedures were followed at all levels of the collation.
