NPP tension grows as Abronye pushes ‘Poor Men Association’ against Kennedy Agyapong

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe—widely known as Abronye DC—is brewing a storm in the party, and it’s not about slogans or manifestos. It’s about class.

Abronye revealed plans to build what many are calling an informal “poor men’s association” within the NPP—a nationwide grassroots movement meant to challenge the influence of wealthy figures like Kennedy Agyapong.

“We are going to form a solid structure in all 275 constituencies. This group will support MPs and leaders who respect every member’s effort, not just those who flash cash and flex,” Abronye said on Wontumi TV monitored by MyNewsGh.

Without mincing words, he accused Kennedy Agyapong of arrogance, claiming the Assin Central MP often uses his financial muscle to sideline others in the party. “You can’t keep reminding people of how much money you’ve spent on the party and expect everyone to bow down to you,” he charged.

For Abronye, this is more than just political rivalry—it’s class warfare within party ranks. His vision is to empower the overlooked, the loyal foot soldiers who don’t have millions but have carried the party through thick and thin.

“We are tired of the arrogance. It’s time the poor in this party teach the rich a lesson,” he said, adding that the upcoming grassroots structure will back leaders who build unity—not those who “enjoy belittling others.”

Though Agyapong’s team has responded with calls for peace and unity, Abronye’s message resonates with a deep-seated frustration among rank-and-file members who feel their sweat and loyalty are often ignored in favour of big spenders with louder voices.
