NPP to launch its campaign in Akwatia on July 30

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, launch its campaign in Akwatia ahead of the by-election.

The launch, according to our sources, will take place at the Calvary Church in Buadua at exactly 2 pm.

The launch under the theme “Winning Together In Honour of Hon. Ernest Yaw Kumi” seeks to drum home the need for a unified front in the party’s quest to win the seat.

MyNewsGh.com is informed that the launch will include a delegates conference to allow the endorsed parliamentary candidate the opportunity to address core delegates and members of the political party.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, July 28, 2025, announced that it had endorsed Solomon Kwame Asomadu as its candidate for the Akwatia by-election.

The decision to settle on Asumadu was because he came top in the party’s search for a suitable candidate who they believe can win the seat for the party.

Speaking during the announcement, Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Jeff Konadu revealed that a committee was formed under the National Council to assess whether to hold primaries or pursue a consensus approach.

“We went into the Akwatia constituency, engaged the grassroots, polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, chiefs, and opinion leaders. The majority said there should be no primaries. That’s the path we followed,” Konadu explained.

The Akwatia by-election has become necessary after the Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, died only six months after the 2024 elections.

The New Patriotic Party is hoping to maintain the seat and to improve their figures in Parliament.
