NPP to open nominations for flagbearership race by ending of July

General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua has announced that the party will open nominations for the flagbearership race by the close of this month.

According to him, this should not be an opportunity for some executives to start suspending people just in the name of mafia.

“We will be opening nominations by the close of this month for the presidential primaries. In NPP, there is something called mafia. We don’t take this mafia to the NDC guys, but if we did, we would’ve always become victorious. When we open nominations, there is always the penchant for the suspension of party folks. Sometimes people are suspended over very petty issues,” he lamented while speaking on Net 2 Television.

“We have amended article 3.7(1). I want to make it known that for any party folk who have been suspended but whose issue hasn’t been addressed by the disciplinary committee for almost six months or one year, the suspension has been quashed. The right thing to do is for the disciplinary committee to sit on the issue for 14 to 21 days. You can’t tell me that you have suspended someone and for six months you’ve not sat on the case. It means you have bad intentions,” he disclosed.

The New Patriotic Party has set January 31, 2026, as the date to choose its leader for the 2028 elections.

The decision to go for early primaries is to help settle the party and work towards winning the 2028 elections.

The party is of the view that early primaries will help heal all wounds and build a stronger bond for victory in the 2028 elections.

Although a number of party folks have kicked against the decision, the National Executive Committee of the political party holds the view that it is in the best interest of the party to have early primaries.
