NPP will be in opposition for 40 Years

Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could remain in opposition for the next four decades, urging his party to focus on long-term national development.
Speaking on Starr FM monitored by MyNewsGh, Baidoo emphasised the importance of using the current period in government to build a lasting legacy.
“They deserve it. You have all the logistics, and it’s going to work out for your own good. That is why they should even leave it for us at this point. We have it, so leave it,” he said.
He stressed the need for sustained development, suggesting that if the NPP returns after decades, they would witness the impact of his party’s work.
“Let’s develop the nation so that in 30, 40, 50 years’ time, if you are fortunate to come back, at least you come and see what we’ve done. You see, you mean the NPP will be, if they are fortunate to even come back, for 40, 45, 50 years,” Baidoo said.
Baidoo also warned against complacency in government, noting that continuous competition drives effective governance.
“Really, we need to develop this country, and when you are coming in, they always try to… don’t you think complacency will set in if you are the only party governing the country?
“There could be laxity, complacency, possibly even laziness because there’s no tough competition for you,” he said.
He added that elections do not always guarantee the best leadership, but remain the system through which choices are made.
“Look, you have chiefs who are doing their best for their communities. Are they elected? So, the election does not always produce the best, but that’s the choice we have,” Baidoo concluded.
