NPP’s Dr. Forkuo links IGP, NDC to galamsey ‘wahala’

Dr. Solomon Forkuo, a lecturer at Kumasi Technical University and member of the NPP communications team, has accused the Inspector General of Police and the ruling NDC of complicity in illegal mining, claiming they are “more interested in gold than in protecting Ghana’s natural resources.”

Speaking on Wontumi TV, he argued that the inaction of authorities has worsened galamsey’s impact, destroying water bodies, farmlands, and rural livelihoods.

“They send soldiers to chase the poor miners while their own people are brought in to mine,” he alleged.

Dr. Forkuo urged the government to abandon its overreliance on military crackdowns and instead invest in education.

He suggested sending trainers weekly to communities like Manso to teach safer, sustainable mining practices.

He also questioned the use of foreign consultants, insisting Ghana should draw on the expertise of retired miners from Prestea, Obuasi, and Tarkwa.

“These retired miners understand the terrain, the methods, and the risks. Why are we ignoring their expertise?” he asked, stressing that locally driven solutions are key to addressing the galamsey crisis.
