NPP’s Ellen Ama Daaku slams young cyber criminals for reckless display of wealth
Ellen Ama Daaku has criticised young cyber criminals for publicly flaunting wealth, saying their reckless behaviour makes it easier for authorities to apprehend them.
Speaking on Angel FM, Ms Daaku used her father’s disciplined approach to life as an example of responsible wealth management.
“My father’s life is what I am using as an example. He progressed in life, moving a step at a time, spending within his means. It was only when he went on pension as managing director that he bought a Mercedes; all the cars he used were lower than that,” she said.
She expressed concern about the behaviour of some young people today, who display luxury online at an unusually young age.
“But nowadays, young boys and girls as young as 22 years are flaunting cars on social media. Where do they get this money from? This Abu Trica guy who was arrested recently, he used to flaunt his money and property on TikTok with his baby mama. This puts pressure on our young ones and even some of us who have grown,” Ms. Daaku said.
She emphasised that education alone does not prevent involvement in cybercrime, noting that some educated individuals engage in scams quietly, without public displays.
“I am sure we have other educated people who are in cybercrime, but because of their level of education, they will not come and flaunt it on social media. But this Abu Trica was not educated, and it was so evident in his lifestyle,” she explained.
Commenting on the consequences of flaunting illicit wealth, Ms. Daaku said, “They deserve to be arrested because they are foolish. It takes a foolish scammer to flaunt their wealth. If they had used their money for investment, people would have found it difficult to track him down because he could claim that, the businesses are his avenue for money. But because he is foolish, he did not do anything like that.”
