NPP’s flagbearership election to be held on January 31, 2026

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its presidential primaries for January 31, 2025.

The decision was reached at the National Executive Council meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra today, June 17, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman Butey, who is the vice chairman of the political party and had to sit in for the chairman of the political party, who is currently indisposed.

It is not clear why the decision was made to elect their leader in 2026 ahead of the polls in 2028.

The party used the opportunity to deliberate on various constitutional amendments proposed by the Ocquaye committee, which investigated the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

The New Patriotic Party will be seeking to snatch power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections.

Currently, two people, Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong, have declared their intentions to contest to lead the political party in the 2028 election.

Kennedy Agyapong has argued that the party needs a new face after their shambolic showing in the 2024 elections and believes that fielding him will do the party a lot of good.
