NPP’s Kwadwo Poku backs Mahama’s plan to clean up social media

Energy Analyst and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has added his voice to growing calls for discipline in Ghana’s digital space, endorsing President John Dramani Mahama’s latest move to clamp down on fake accounts, online abuse, and misinformation.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, Mr. Poku lamented how social media has become a tool for unchecked insults and attacks.

“It’s sad to see someone who cannot stand before you physically to insult you, but because of social media that same person can rain insults on you anytime he wants,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians to rally behind the President’s directive to restore order and respect in online discourse.

“I am calling on Ghanaians to support the President in sanitizing the online space to bring back dignity,” he added.

His remarks follow President Mahama’s strong warning at a media engagement at Jubilee House on Wednesday, September 10, where the President disclosed that the National Signals Bureau (NSB) has been equipped with advanced tracking technology to unmask perpetrators of hate speech, fake news, and incitement.

The President cautioned that the days of online anonymity fueling impunity are over.
