Oforikrom MP calls for investigations into allegation of corruption against the Attorney General

Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, has urged Parliament to investigate allegations leveled against the Attorney General by Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng.

In a Facebook post, he argues that A Plus is no longer just a citizen but a Member of Parliament, indicating that the allegations of corruption against the venerable Attorney General holds some weight and must not be left unattended.

He has called on the President to initiate a comprehensive and independent investigation into these allegations against the Attorney General as soon as possible.

Michael Aidoo cited the decision by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to investigate his appointee when allegations of corruption were leveled against them as the basis for his calls on the president.

His post read, “When Allegations Demand Accountability: The A Plus and Attorney General Controversy.

In 2017, when A Plus, then an ordinary citizen exercising his constitutional right to speak truth to power, posted on Facebook alleging corruption against Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Hon. Abu Jinapor, and Hon. Asenso-Boakye, the President demonstrated leadership by initiating an official investigation. That decisive action established a clear precedent: allegations of corruption, regardless of their source, warrant thorough scrutiny. Just last week, the President reaffirmed this commitment, stating that all corruption allegations would be investigated.

Today, A Plus is no longer merely a citizen with a social media platform, he now serves as a Member of Parliament. This position significantly elevates the gravity of any allegations connected to him. Parliament, as the people’s representative body, cannot and must not ignore these serious claims. The standards of accountability must remain consistent, and in this case, should be even more rigorous given his official position.

The President must, as a matter of urgent public interest, initiate a comprehensive and independent investigation into these allegations against the Attorney General. The Ghanaian public deserves complete transparency, and the credibility of our democratic institutions hangs in the balance. These serious allegations suggest A Plus may have significant leverage over the Attorney General; concerning dynamic that demands immediate attention rather than being conveniently ignored”.
