Okada Union distances itself from planned Pokuase–Nsawam strike

The Commercial National Motor Riders Union (Okada) has distanced itself from an upcoming strike planned by transport operators on the Pokuase–Nsawam road, scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.

In a press release signed by the National PRO, Akpanaba Solomon, the Union clarified that although the route has become a major concern for commuters, they are legally not permitted to participate in the industrial action.

“While we regret about the appalling nature of the above stated jurisdiction route which has gained its notoriety among Ghanaians, we want to inform Ghanaians, especially our members and their passengers that as we remained a De Facto alternative transport group, we are not allowed by law to join the planned striking transport operators,” the statement read.

The Union assured the public that their services will remain operational to support commuters who may be stranded as a result of the strike.

“We hereby notify all Ghanaians especially those who may be stranded on that day due to the strike, to make good use of the availability of our services,” it added.

It further pledged improved safety standards while urging government to respond quickly to the demands of the striking transport operators.

“We pray that government will respond swiftly to the demands of the striking trio or the strike should continue. While we are also making good use of this opportunity,” the statement concluded.
