Only electoral defeat will make politicians Listen – GMA

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has renewed its call for political leaders to take clear positions on issues affecting the nation, warning that failure to act will come at a political cost.

“When the GMA asked political parties to declare their positions and sign a pact, we wanted clarity on where they stand.

2Some called for strike action, but strikes aren’t sustainable. The only consequence politicians fear is electoral loss. My message is: if you don’t fight it, we’ll boot you out,” a representative said.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, September 18, 2025, he explained that the association remains committed to intensifying advocacy and public mobilisation to push for accountability.

“We should continue to apply pressure. We will continue to talk and to advocate,” he stressed.

The GMA believes that sustained civic engagement, rather than industrial action, is the more effective path to ensure meaningful reform and protect the welfare of its members and the wider public.
