OSP has every right to declare Ofori-Atta a fugitive – Amaliba

Acting Director-General, National Road Safety Authority, Abraham Amaliba has backed the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive.
Mr. Amaliba explained that the OSP was right by its action since the lawyers of Ofori-Atta had indicated that the former finance minister was out of the country Indefinitely.
According to Amaliba, the former finance minister was “intransigent” by failing to honour the invitation by the OSP if the narration by the Special Prosecutor and Ken Ofori-Atta’s legal team is anything to go by.
“So if that is the case and you are a subject matter of a criminal investigation what else do you expect the OSP to do…but if you write a letter as he has indicated that your client is away from home, that you don’t know when he’s going to come back it is a clear indication of running away from justice so the OSP has every right to declare you as a fugitive,” he stated on TV3’s New Day, Friday, February 14, 2025.
He added: “reading what the OSP has communicated, I think that if that is true then Ken Ofori-Atta was intransigent. Because from the communication, the OSP indicated that Ken refused to indicate when he was going to come home to have him interrogated and that he was going to be outside perpetually.”
Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted by the OSP for cases being investigated including; the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao, procurement over National Cathedral, contracts awarded by the Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances and the SML-GRA deal.
Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng at a press conference on Wednesday, February 12 declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive and placed him on its wanted list after the former finance minister failed to honour several invitation by the OSP.
The OSP further emphasized that it would take all necessary measures to compel the former minister to appear and answer questions related to the investigations.
