Our region is young, we must unite – Minister’s Eid message to Muslims

North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia has called on Muslims in the region to champion peace and unity as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

Addressing a gathering in Nalerigu to mark the end of Ramadan, he emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering development and overcoming challenges.

“I urge each and every one of you to be ambassadors of peace. Our region is young and still developing, and we face various challenges. It is crucial that we come together in unity and collaboration to overcome these obstacles,” he said.

The Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Nalerigu brought together the Muslim community in an atmosphere of gratitude and reflection.

The minister’s message resonated with many as he underscored the role of peace in ensuring sustainable growth for the region.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning against illegal construction on waterways, wetlands, and Ramsar sites, vowing to demolish unauthorized structures that contribute to flooding and destruction.

Speaking at the 2025 National Eid-ul-Fitr celebration at Black Star Square, he condemned the reckless disregard for environmental laws, which continues to put lives and properties at risk.

“I must address a deeply troubling issue. The illegal construction of buildings in waterways is causing flooding and extensive destruction of property.

As we know, the rains are about to start, and already, we are seeing flooding because people have built and blocked the rivers, and so they have nowhere to go but to back up,” he stated.

The President did not only blame private individuals but also accused some chiefs of colluding to sell Ramsar sites for development.
