Over 850 screened as Armah-Kofi Buah rolls out free eye care initiative in Nzema

Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has announced the rollout of a free community-wide eye screening and cataract surgery program across Nzema land.

“In a collaborative effort with the Daybreak Vision Project and St. Martin de Porres Hospital, I am proud to announce the launch of a comprehensive free eye screening and cataract surgeries for the good people of Nzema land,” he said in a post on Facebook sighted by MyNewsGh.

According to the minister, the initiative began with a screening phase that has already reached several communities.

“The first phase, a community-wide screening program, is now underway. The exercise successfully commenced yesterday in Esiama, Kamgbunli, Asemko, Kikam, and Asanta, where over 850 individuals were examined and identified numerous cataract cases,” he stated.

He added that the medical team would continue the exercise across additional communities until November 9, 2025.

“The screening team will continue its mission, visiting various communities until November 9th, 2025,” Mr. Buah said.

The minister further announced that those diagnosed with cataracts would receive free surgeries as part of the program’s next phase.

“The second phase, surgical intervention, will run from November 10th to 14th, 2025. All individuals diagnosed with cataracts will receive free surgeries at St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Eikwe,” he noted.
