They said it was solemn, so why not use the Jubilee House? – KOKA questions prayer event venue

Controversy is brewing over Ghana’s first-ever National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, following allegations that the event may have cost taxpayers as much as GHC 1.5 million.
Entertainment pundit and NPP fanatic, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, expressed concern on Movement TV over what he described as excessive spending on what was supposed to be a solemn and spiritually reflective gathering.
“They said it was a solemn reflection, but why didn’t they use the forecourt of the Jubilee House?” he asked pointedly.
He went on to say, “It is being alleged by some groups on WhatsApp platforms that the cost of the event was 1 million. The other event organisers are saying 1.5.”
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, held on July 1 at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, was led by President John Dramani Mahama and brought together Christian and Muslim religious leaders as well as political figures across the divide.
The ceremony aimed to unify the nation through prayer and gratitude for peace, healing, and national progress.
But KOKA says the extravagance of the event undermined the very essence of what was intended to be a moment of solemnity.
He believes such events should be organized modestly, especially in times when the country is facing serious economic constraints.
