Parliament to resume sitting on October 21 — Bagbin announces

After a brief deferment earlier this month, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has confirmed that the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will officially commence on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
In a new statement issued from the Office of the Speaker and signed by Mr. Bagbin, proceedings are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Parliament
House in Accra. The notice, issued pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, formally sets a new date for the resumption of parliamentary business.
“Pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, I give notice that the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic shall now commence on Tuesday, 21st day of October 2025 at 1400 hours at Parliament House, Accra,” the statement read.
The meeting will mark the final parliamentary session of the year, during which Members of Parliament are expected to reconvene from recess to deliberate on pressing national matters, including bills, motions, and policy statements from various government ministries and agencies. The session is also anticipated to feature debates on legislative and fiscal issues ahead of the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.
The new date comes after an earlier postponement announced on October 6, 2025. In that earlier communication, Speaker Bagbin had informed Members of Parliament that the meeting, initially scheduled to commence following a notice issued on September 29, was being deferred due to “circumstances beyond [his] control.”
“I hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” Mr Bagbin stated in the earlier notice issued from his office.
