Persons who supervised death of 6 potential recruits must resign or be suspended—Dr. Tia Mahama

Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tia Mahama, is of the view that the acting Defence Minister did not take responsibility when he addressed parliament on the death of 6 prospective recruits during a screening exercise in the course of the week.
He holds the view that if the acting minister will not take responsibility, at least the president should have publicly taken responsibility.
“The response he gave in Parliament basically did not suggest that as the minister responsible for defence, he has taken the ultimate responsibility for what happened. If he cannot take responsibility, the president ought to have taken ultimate responsibility for what happened.
I said as a country we are all to blame, but someone will have to take the ultimate responsibility, and if people are not voluntarily resigning, he will have to make sure that those people go. Whatever the enquiry has to be, some people can be suspended,” he stated.
To him, people in charge of the processes should rather be suspended pending enquiry and not just be asked to step aside.
Dr. Tia Mahama holds the view that although the government is compensating the families with slots in the military recruitment process, it is a shame because for those families unemployment is better than loss of life.
