Police arrest and convict robbery gang behind Dome and ACP Junction attacks

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has successfully arrested, prosecuted, and secured convictions against a five-member robbery gang linked to two high-profile robberies at Dome and ACP Junction in Accra.

According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the first incident occurred on May 11, 2025, around 1:25 a.m. at the Jos Bakery Head Office in Dome.

Two armed robbers—20-year-old mechanic Isaac Agbezudor, alias “Money Man,” and 19-year-old okada rider Justice Akwasi Sarfo Oppong, alias “Gariba Manta” or “Demon”—attacked staff while riding an unlicensed motorbike.

During the robbery, the suspects fired a locally made pistol into the air to intimidate their victims, making away with a Tecno Pop 8 smartphone valued at GH₵1,500 and a handbag containing personal belongings.

Swift investigations led to the arrest of Isaac Agbezudor on May 14 through a covert operation. Following his confession, police recovered key evidence, including the motorbike and clothing used in the crime, and identified his accomplice.

Further intelligence led to the arrest of Gariba Manta on May 22 at a mining site between Osino and Saaman.

He subsequently directed the police to a hideout at Sonitra, Amasaman, where the pistol and live ammunition used in the robbery were found.

Both suspects were arraigned before the Kwabenya Circuit Court. Isaac Agbezudor pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison on two counts, to run concurrently. His accomplice, Gariba Manta, was also convicted and handed a 15-year prison term.

Further investigations linked Gariba Manta to another robbery at ACP Junction on February 5, 2025. He and three others—Bright Alikor (21), alias “Zaamani,” a driver’s mate; Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey (23), alias “Chameleon”; and Prince Owusu (19), alias “Check Boy”—robbed a female victim of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a Samsung tablet, and GH₵6,000 in cash using a knife and scissors.

The victim sustained knife wounds during the attack.

All three accomplices were arrested in separate covert operations and tried before the Kwabenya Circuit Court, where they were each sentenced to 15 years in prison.

In a related development, police are pursuing a suspect in Koforidua who is believed to have purchased the stolen iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The Accra Regional Police Command commended its intelligence and operations teams for their swift actions, and reassured the public of its commitment to safety and confidentiality for informants.

The police also urged the public to continue providing credible information to support efforts in combating crime.
