Kwame Asumadu endorsed as NPP’s candidate for Akwatia by-election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, CEO of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
The endorsement comes after extensive consultations within the party’s grassroots and a decision by party leadership to forego primaries in favour of consensus.
Speaking during the announcement, Eastern Regional NPP Chairman, Jeff Konadu, revealed that a committee was formed under the National Council to assess whether to hold primaries or pursue a consensus approach.
“We went into the Akwatia constituency, engaged the grassroots, polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, chiefs, and opinion leaders. The majority said there should be no primaries. That’s the path we followed,” Konadu explained.
Following that decision, the party initiated a constituency-wide search to determine the most suitable candidate.
Names including Hon. Amase, Lawyer Uredu, Daniel Nyami, and Osei Apia were considered.
However, Solomon Kwame Asumadu emerged as the overwhelming favourite.
“We gave all the names to our research team and asked them to go into the villages and towns to seek feedback. When the report came back, the people had settled on Kwame Asumadu,” Jeff Konadu added.
The National Council approved the findings and authorized the regional team to carry out a popular acclamation, officially making Kwame Asumadu the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia.
