Police deploy armoured vehicles to Nalerigu after arson attacks

Security has been tightened in Nalerigu following arson attacks that left two houses burned, prompting the Inspector-General of Police to deploy reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to the North East Regional capital.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit, the deployment is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and enforce the government-imposed curfew amid threats of further attacks.

“The Inspector-General of Police has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its environs following the setting ablaze of two houses by some youth and threats to burn more houses and attack citizens,” the statement said.

The additional personnel will work with the North East Regional Police Command to strengthen patrols, intensify highway security, and ensure the safety of commuters passing through the area.

Police said investigations into the attacks are ongoing and assured residents that those responsible will be arrested and prosecuted.

The public, particularly residents of Nalerigu, have been urged to comply with the curfew and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and order.
