Police Invite Osahen Afenyo-Markin over “Viral Demonstration Video”

The Ghana Police Service says it has invited the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to assist them in an ongoing investigation.
According to the Service, the investigation bothers on an accident recorded during the “Save The Judiciary” demonstration which took place on May 5, 2025.
A statement announcing the invitation said permission was sought from the Speaker of Parliament before the Honorable Minority Leader was invited.
The statement read, “The Ghana Police Service has reviewed several video footages on an alleged assault on a police officer by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the just-ended demonstration.
Following the review, the Service has written to the Right Hon. Speaker of Parliament requesting the release of Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist ongoing investigation into the alleged incident.
The officer in question will also be assisting the investigation”.
Background
In videos available on social media, the minority leader is seen engaged in an exchange of words with a uniformed police officer who is said to have struck him in the chest after he was seeking access to the premises of parliament, which was barricaded.
The minority leader, according to reports, almost lost his balance after he was struck by the police officer and had to lean close to a wall to prevent himself from collapsing.
He is said to have been provided with water from National Service personnel at Parliament, which helped him stabilize.
