Police, not soldiers, to handle Ablekuma North elections – Omane Boamah

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has assured the public that there will be no military presence in the Ablekuma North Constituency during today’s parliamentary elections.

In a strongly-worded statement shared ahead of the polls, Dr. Boamah emphasized that the Ghana Police Service will be solely responsible for security during the exercise, urging citizens to remain calm and confident in the process.

“Ablekuma North Elections: THERE WILL BE NO MILITARY DEPLOYMENT!” he declared.

He stressed the importance of avoiding the mistakes of previous elections, pointing to incidents such as the violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and the tragic killing of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 elections.

“Let’s learn from past experiences… and prioritize citizen safety and security,” the minister said.

Reiterating his point for clarity and emphasis, Dr. Boamah added:

“The Ghana Police Service is trained to handle electoral security, and we trust them to do their job.”

He concluded by calling on all voters to maintain peace and take part in the democratic process as Ghana moves toward what he described as a new chapter under John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.

“Let’s keep the peace and make our voices heard as John Dramani Mahama resets Ghana and creates more opportunities for Ghanaians,” he said.
