Police pick up suspect for destroying posters in Akwatia

Police in Akwatia arrested one person on Tuesday, September 2, for allegedly tearing down a candidate’s posters at a polling station during the constituency’s by-election.
The swift intervention allowed voting to continue without disruption.
The by-election follows the death of NPP Member of Parliament Ernest Kumi.
Voters are choosing between Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the opposition NPP.
To ensure order, the Ghana Police Service has deployed over 5,500 officers. Authorities have warned that any form of intimidation, violence, or interference will be met with strict action.
More than 50,000 registered voters are expected to participate. The Electoral Commission has reassured residents of a free and transparent process.
