Over 50 Pakistanis killed in deadly clash with India

Over 50 Pakistanis have lost their lives following a violent clash with Indian forces in Kashmir, deepening the already strained relationship between the two countries.

The deadly exchange escalated after a series of military strikes, with tensions mounting between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

The conflict ignited when a deadly attack on Hindu tourists in India-administered Kashmir left 25 Indians and one Nepali national dead.

In retaliation, India launched a series of military operations targeting what it claimed were terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan denied any involvement in the attack and accused India of causing the deaths of 40 civilians and 11 military personnel during the strikes.

This flare-up is just the latest chapter in a long-standing conflict that dates back to the 1947 Partition, when British India was divided into the Muslim-majority Pakistan and Hindu-majority India.

Kashmir, a disputed region, has been at the heart of tensions ever since, with both nations asserting their claims over it. Military confrontations, wars, and border clashes have marked the fraught relationship for decades.

As the violence escalated, Pakistan launched missile strikes on Indian airbases, claiming to have shot down five Indian aircraft.

India, meanwhile, reaffirmed its commitment to holding those responsible for the Pahalgam attack accountable and indicated it would take further military action if necessary.

The situation remains perilous, with no clear path to de-escalation. Both countries have suspended diplomatic agreements, reducing the chances for peaceful resolution.
