Politics belongs to the grassroots—Kwabena Agyepong declares 2026 presidential bid

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has officially announced his intention to contest in the party’s upcoming 2026 presidential primaries, positioning himself as the unifying figure the NPP urgently needs.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, Agyepong emphasized that politics must serve the ordinary Ghanaian, not just the privileged political class.

“Politics belongs to the grassroots, belongs to the ordinary people. Not the petty scabble of contented partisan elites,” he asserted.

Agyepong warned the party against choosing a candidate who might drag it into another cycle of division and internal strife.

“Let us not weigh down this party any further with a choice that will eventually call for unending efforts of reconciliation, reparation from hate speeches.”

Positioning himself as the best hope for unity and electoral success, the seasoned politician declared:

“With me, KAA, the NPP has a clear path to unity and victory. We need a pair of clean hands, a clear mind and a compassionate heart to lead our nation and the party.”

Calling for collective action and renewal, Agyepong pledged to offer a fresh and inclusive leadership.

“I, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, stand ready to work with you, ready to rebuild, ready to restore hope for our party and every Ghanaian.”
