Pope John Senior High School has honoured its fallen alumnus, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, with a solemn requiem mass held on campus on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The ceremony saw students and staff of the Koforidua-based school sing hymns and offer prayers for the late minister, who tragically died in a military helicopter crash on August 6.
Just two months earlier, Dr. Boamah had returned to his alma mater as guest speaker for the school’s 67th Anniversary celebration.
Deeply moved by a portrait presented by a Visual Arts student, he pledged to sponsor the student to study architecture at KNUST.
Dr. Boamah died alongside eight others, including Minister for Environment Dr. Murtala Mohammed, former Minister Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and Ghana Air Force officers, when the Z-9 helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi crashed in the Ashanti Region.
