Power outages to hit parts of Accra, Ashanti, and Western Regions as ECG schedules April 30 maintenance

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in parts of the Greater Accra Region, even as multiple regions across the country experience unplanned power outages due to technical faults.
Greater Accra Region
According to ECG, the planned maintenance will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will affect communities including Kwabenya Abuom, Comet Estates, Boiman, Teiman, Seseme, Burger Town, Adjeman Kata, and the KNUST Campus in Accra.
The power distributor has apologised for any inconvenience, noting that the work is part of ongoing efforts to ensure improved and reliable electricity supply.
Accra East
In the Accra East enclave, residents of La Birthday and nearby areas are also experiencing outages caused by unspecified technical challenges. ECG says technical teams are on site to resolve the issue.
Ashanti Region
Meanwhile, in the Ashanti Region, several communities have been plunged into darkness due to a cable fault at the Wawase Substation. Affected areas include Kunka, Kwapia, Akrokerri, Sodua, Abadwam, Tutuka, Wawase, Kwabrafoso, Boete, Low Cost, and Akaporiso.
ECG’s Ashanti South office says engineers are working tirelessly to rectify the issue and restore power supply.
Western Region
In the Western Region, a transformer fault at Beahu has resulted in a blackout affecting the Beahu community, the Methodist Church, and surrounding areas.
ECG has indicated that efforts are underway to restore electricity.
ECG is encouraging customers, particularly in the affected Greater Accra communities, to make the necessary preparations ahead of the April 30 maintenance, and to stay updated via official ECG communication channels.
