President Mahama nominates seven justices to Supreme Court

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated seven distinguished Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
This comes under Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which empowers the President to nominate individuals for the highest court in the land, subject to the advice of the Judicial Council and the approval of Parliament.
The nominees include Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba.
In a formal letter dated April 29, 2025, and signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, the presidency emphasised the urgency of the matter.
The communication, which has been addressed to His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Acting Chief Justice, signals the President’s intent to ensure continuity and fortification of the judicial arm of government.
