NPP’s 2028 hopes depend on strong leadership – Dr. Otchere

Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has cautioned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) requires strong and unifying leadership if it is to remain competitive in the 2028 general election.
Dr. Otchere stressed that the party’s internal challenges have left it at a critical point.
“The NPP is at a crossroads due to the internal bickering; hence they need a formidable chairman going into the 2028 general election,” he told Isaac Addae during interview on The Verdict on Starr 103.5 FM.
He argued that the party’s next chairman must not only be respected but also have the authority to enforce discipline and restore cohesion.
“The NPP needs a very solid chairman who can garner respect and crack the whip. Boakye Agyarko stands tall in this regard,” Dr. Otchere noted.
He concluded that the stakes are high, with the outcome of the upcoming chairmanship race likely to determine the NPP’s long-term fortunes.
Without unity and strong leadership, he warned, the party’s ambition to “break the 8” and secure a third consecutive term in 2028 could be in jeopardy.
