Production ban on Tasty Tom enforced amid health risks

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has halted the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix, citing alarming lapses in quality control at Nutrifoods Ghana Limited’s factory.
The decision comes on the back of growing concerns about product safety and consumer complaints.
An FDA investigation uncovered faulty sealing systems that had allowed mold growth, contamination, and pouch bloating in specific sizes—especially the 380g and 1.05kg variants—posing clear health risks.
These findings were reinforced by reports from consumers and physical assessments of both the canned and pouch products.
As a result, the FDA has begun a market recall targeting all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix and the affected pouches. Consumers and distributors have been urged to comply with the recall to prevent further health hazards.
The regulatory body has also opened an internal review to assess how Nutrifoods resumed production despite a ban issued in January 2025.
The FDA promises to investigate any oversight on its part and take appropriate action.
In the meantime, the suspension remains in force as the FDA works to restore public confidence in the safety of processed food products.
