Prof Alidu’s place in parliament is assured – Alidu Bukari on Tamale Central

Dr. Gbensuglo Alidu Bukari, Senior Political Science lecturer and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University for Development Studies, has expressed confidence that Professor Seidu Mahama Alidu is set to represent Tamale Central as Member of Parliament following his triumph in the NDC parliamentary primary.

“The Tamale Central Constituency has been a stronghold for the NDC, with the party consistently winning in previous elections.

In the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, the NDC’s Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed secured the parliamentary seat,” Dr Bukari noted.

He explained that the region’s political dynamics present formidable challenges for independent candidates.

“Given the NDC’s historical dominance in the region and the absence of a major opposition party candidate, an independent candidate faces significant challenges,” he said.

While acknowledging the occasional impact of independent candidates in Ghanaian politics, Dr Bukari emphasized that the political landscape in Tamale Central heavily favors the NDC.

“While independent candidates have occasionally made notable impacts in the Ghanaian electoral politics, the political landscape in Tamale Central heavily favours the NDC,” he affirmed.

Looking ahead to the September 30, 2025 parliamentary by-election, Dr Bukari stressed that Prof Alidu’s victory is almost assured unless an independent contender presents an extraordinary campaign.

“Unless an Independent candidate could conjure something special, Prof Alidu’s place in Parliament is assured,” he concluded.
